Weather In The Illinois Valley
Cave Junction is located about 35 to 40 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. The coastal range of hills provides a buffer from ocean storms so that we have a mild climate. Summer temperature will go over 100 degrees for a few days. The nighttime temperature will drop to 55 or 60 degrees, making for comfortable sleeping. Winter will see about 20 degrees as an average low. Rainfall averages 50 to 55 inches, most of which occurs in December and January. June, July and August are usually dry. Since our valley is somewhat isolated from major weather patterns, there are normally no large storms and damaging winds. Snow fall is a few inches on the valley floor. The surrounding hills with elevations over 5000 feet will receive a few feet of snow. The last snow is usually gone from the higher elevations by the middle of June.
